CM-B: Brass Instrument Clean & Maintenance

Students will learn the proper techniques for cleaning brass instruments as well as how to teach students how to maintain them. This will include the following:

• Cleaning the case
• Instrument tear downs
  • How to remove stuck mouthpieces
  • Remove difficult slides
  • Free up stuck valve caps
  • Remove stuck valves
• Different levels of instrument cleanings
• How to assemble instruments
  • How to install valve guides & springs
  • How to port valves and select the correct size of valve felts or rubber stops
  • How to string rotors
  • How to adjust valve action
  • Basic trombone slide adjustments
  • How to install tuning slides and make them smooth
  • How to replace water key corks, water key springs and adjust them
• How to polish mouthpieces
